Preparation
Early pregnancy, before 12 weeks: a scan through the abdomen needs a full bladder. Later on no preparation is needed. Bring your pregnancy record and previous scan results.
How it works
The scan is safe for mother and baby. You lie on a couch while the doctor moves the probe over your belly, shows the baby on screen and explains the results.
